Handbook Showcase: Emergency Planning
On 29 October, AIDR hosted the third webinar in the Handbook Showcase Webinar Series for the launch of the Emergency Planning handbook. The webinar was a success, with 300 participating in the event and attendees describing the webinar as an informative and excellent event.
During the webinar event, handbook writer David Parsons presented a brief introduction and overview to Emergency Planning and highlighted the key changes in the disaster resilience and emergency management landscape since the previous 2004 Manual was published.
Helen Foster, Chief Risk and Resilience Officer from the Bureau of Meteorology, provided a case study from the water sector which highlighted key principles and the emergency planning process in practice.
Handbook Working Group member Kirsten Tanner, newly appointed Emergency Management Coordinator for Macedon Ranges Shire Council, presented some key examples through previous work with the Victorian Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions and small business and the themes of consequence thinking and management and locally led-approaches.
